We’ve done our part cheering Spain to its first ever soccer World Cup title. The celebrating has been long and wild. Tens of thousands of fans packed venues all over the country to watch the games on huge screens. The victory parade in Madrid took 4 hours to cover 3 miles. It’s been great fun to be a part of. ¡Viva la Roja! ¡Viva España!

How to move a heart

As part of a new project with Spanish Ministries, several Spanish youth spent a Saturday morning helping Mikaela and Eliel with on-the-street interviews.

If you could wander into Roland Walter's office here at MMC and ask about Spanish Ministries' newest projects, he'd tell you openly, "The whole purpose is to move the hearts and minds of Spaniards towards Jesus."
The hardest question is how to do this. So lately Roland, Mikaela Bruce, and Spanish intern Eliel have been asking Spaniards a lot of question to figure this out. Roland makes the point of talking with a number of Spaniards each week about their views on the purpose of life. Meanwhile, Mikeala and Eliel are filming on-the-street questions with younger generation Spaniards to ask them questions like "What is love?"
Roland says, "We want to understand the culture by learning what people think and where their concerns lie."
As they continue to ask questions, they are now also filming 1-2 minute testimonies about a believer's relationship with Christ, and how that relationship pertains to the issues addressed in these questions. This project specifically targets people from their early teens to 30 years of age. The Spanish Ministries team asks for prayer as they seek ways to move the hearts and minds of Spaniards towards Christ.

Camera project

Update: This project has been funded. Thanks to those who helped.

Canon 550D
The video world is taking some exciting new turns, and one we want to take advantage of is using digital SLR cameras for high definition video. By using SLR lenses we can get the great images and shallow depths of field (think out-of focus backgrounds or foregrounds) in video previously only possible in very expensive cinematographic cameras. We can improve the quality of our productions and stay up with the ever-changing standards of our viewing audience. These cameras are also very portable and unobtrusive.
Compared to good professional video cameras, the video-capable DSLRs are rather inexpensive, and yet maintain the professional quality. For the camera, an extra lens and some other accessories we need $2,500.
To help out with this need, consider sending an additional gift to Avant Minstries for us, designated as “Camera equipment.” It would help if you let me know of your intent as well.

Our videos used in the Basque region

“I use everything you send me”

Alfredo Gomez produces the evangelical TV program “Nueva Vida” (New Life) in the Basque region of northern Spain. He spends most of his time as a medical doctor, but he also oversees the production of two weekly TV programs, one in Spanish and one in Basque, with an audience of about thirty five thousand people a week. He is a busy man. Recently he told me he uses everything I send him. He has included all of the testimonies we’ve produced, as well as the short answers to common questions in our series “Give me a minute.”
In addition, his ministry has hosted several well-attended dinners for seekers, and our testimony DVDs “People Like You” are given as gifts. Alfredo and his broadcast are a light for the Gospel in a part of Spain that is especially resistant, and we are glad to be a part of that.

¿Ahora Que? used in Gibraltar outreach

AQ Gibraltar Inside AQ Gib
Impact World Tour was in Gibraltar recently and the people in charge of follow-up decided to use our ¿Ahora Qué? booklet. They had it translated into English, made their own cover and printed 500 copies. We sent over some Spanish versions as well. The attendance at the events was very good (I heard it totalled 6,000), and there were lots of people to follow-up. It was exciting to be able to contribute to this outreach.

Christmas at Lucy's school

IMG_2789
Yesterday all the kids in Lucy’s preschool came dressed up as shepherds and shepherdesses. Not the borrowed bathrobe type of outfit, but Spanish style. Girls wear peasant dresses and boys come with sheepskin vests, hats and leggings. Annie went along to take Lucy to school and even got in some of the pictures. Her Mrs Santa outfit looked a bit out of place but she didn’t care.

A night that changed a family

Dolores was 8 months pregnant when the flu hit. And it hit hard. Soon after being admitted to the hospital she was in an induced coma. Pneumonia had clogged her lungs and she fought for every breath. The baby was delivered via Ceasarian to save it’s life, and Dolores hung by a thread. The doctors didn’t think she would survive the night. Read More...

Cuenta cuentos

Cuenta Cuentos
Kids anywhere like a story. Jack’s school recently asked me (Rolly) to read some stories for their Friday “cuenta cuentos” (story time). It is a bilingual school, so I read in English and translated into Spanish. The kids, however, preferred the story I read just in Spanish. I guess everyone can relate to “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.”

Keep praying for Sandy

I’ve asked you to pray for Sandy Prieto who worked with us a while back producing some of the testimonies. She was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. Today she wrote:

I am doing very well, thank you.  the pain is almost completely gone and I have been regaining my strength day by day. The treatment was hard and I was very glad when it was over!!!  I am going back to Madrid tomorrow for some tests and the doctor will let me know the success of the treatment afterwards... so if you could continue praying, that would be extremely appreciated!!!  the tests will be done on Wednesday, September 30th and the appointment with the doctor for the results will be on October 9th.

Please pray for complete healing for Sandy - maybe you could pray right now as you read this.

New video "Walters in Spain"

Walters in Spain Sept 09 from Roland Walter on Vimeo.

It will be a boy

Today at the doctor’s office we found out that our baby is a boy. On Thursday we are going in for a high resolution scan. They go into 3D mode which provides some pretty amazing views. I’ll post a picture here when we get it. By the way, Robyn is due January 19, though we expect him to arrive sooner since the last two babies did.

003 ¿Qué es un cristiano nacido de nuevo?2

New format for WaltersInSpain.com

For several months there have been no changes to this web site. To help me stay on top of things I’m changing to a blog-style front page. The content from the other site is still here, in case someone cares to see what’s been written in the past, but I will only be adding to this page. I’ll add my semi-regular prayer updates, as well as the ocassional family news. If you want to see only the family news, click find it in the “categories” section way down the column to the left.
