A night that changed a family

Dolores was 8 months pregnant when the flu hit. And it hit hard. Soon after being admitted to the hospital she was in an induced coma. Pneumonia had clogged her lungs and she could barely breathe. The baby was delivered via Caesarian section to save its life, and Dolores hung by a thread. The doctors didn’t think she would survive the night.

Dolores is not a believer in Christ, but her sister Susana is. All night long Susana and her husband led the family in prayers and Bible reading. The next morning Dolores was still alive but still in critical condition. Days of anguish and waiting followed with small improvements and slight relapses.

Four weeks after that long night Dolores finally regained consciousness. But in that month a lot had happened. Her husband Angel listened to many Bible verses as he stood with the family at her side. He saw the inner strength that carried Susana and Youssef. And he wanted it for himself. Angel decided to put his trust in Christ alone, and put aside the images of saints and amulets he had been counting on to save his wife.

Life outside the hospital moved on for Angel. He had a business to take care of, where he worked with Mohamed, his sister Carmen’s boyfriend. Mohamed saw such a change in Angel that he also wanted what Angel had. And then Carmen decided to trust in Christ as well.

Dolores woke up to a different family. Her husband is a believer. Her baby is one month old, and her family has seen the power of God first hand. The flu hit her hard. God hit harder.

Pray that Dolores, her parents and her other sister will also come to faith in Christ. Pray for full recovery. The flu and pneumonia are gone and she is sitting up and eating, but she still has much recovering to do.
