Dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Grace and peace to you all.
As you know, my older sister Loli was admitted to the hospital in Málaga this past October 28 because of the H1N1 flu. She was 8 months pregnant which caused complications much more severe than normal. I know that many of you have followed her progress through the letters which Youssef has sent.
Loli spent three weeks breathing with a respirator through tubes, and two weeks with a tracheotomy - altogether 5 weeks in a coma. According to the doctors her lungs were clinically dead due to pneumonia caused by the H1N1 flu.
We have all heard of the consequences of this flu in pregnant women, BUT with God there are no obstacles or diseases that can keep Him from demonstrating His power. For 5 weeks we heard the doctors say “she has just one more day” because they could not imagine that she could escape death. Then her body began to react and stabilize, even though she had problems with her liver, blood pressure, white blood cells, thrombosis, pneumothorax and rigid lungs.
At 6 weeks they began to waken her by reducing the sedatives, and as of today Loli is completely well. She hasn’t lost any of her memory or her faculties. She is completely recovered and only has to have rehabilitation for her muscles and a 6 month treatment for thrombosis in her leg. Her lungs are completely restored.
On December 23 she was released from the hospital and we were able to spend Christmas together celebrating the greatness of God.
Gisela, my niece is also well, thanks to God. She is healthy and has a good appetite. She is another miracle, because she was deprived of oxygen when she was delivered by caesarean and had to be resuscitated.
This has been just a quick explanation. Two months have passed and we have seen the hand of God, we and all those around us, including the doctors. They have no logical explanation for the healing of my sister. While she was in coma in the intensive care unit, a place where death prevails, the Lord told me to me to sing praises to His name, so I did. We also read the Word of God out loud every day and we prayed for her and the other sick people around her as well. God revealed Himself and many have seen His power.
My brother-in-law Angel trusted in Christ on Halloween, and then also his brother-in-law Mohamed, who is of Muslim background, as well as his sister Carmen.
One before she was released Loli also received Christ into her heart. All my family, friends, and doctors and nurses who lived this situation have seen God work through Jesus. According to Loli herself, she saw Jesus while she was in the coma, and He gave her peace in the middle of the coldness that was hurting her.
God through Jesus has done this miracle in the life of my sister, and in our lives as well. We have all been a part of this, because I know that in many places and countries churches have prayed for us and most of all for my sister. Many who don’t even know us have interceded for us.
I give thanks to God for his Church, for those who have accompanied us in this difficult journey. Many have prayed for us from Málaga, Spain, France, Switzerland, Germany, England, Morocco, Algeria, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Mexico and the United States. After my sister was in the hospital for two weeks God gave me this verse:
Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. Philipians 2:27
To all and each one of you, thanks from us, and a Happy New Year 2010. May the Lord’s blessing abound, and may you see His glory just as we have been able to see it.
A very cordial embrace, and the peace of God for your lives,
